Free spins: a slot offer seen by a table player
By Kristaps Birznieks · updated October 2026
Free spins are the most advertised bonus of all, and they work on slots only. If you mainly play live tables or bet on sport, free spins can still be useful as a way to try a slot without your own money — but they will never add anything to your balance at the roulette wheel.
What "spin value" means
Every free spin has a fixed stake. Twenty spins at €0.20 have a face value of €4. Their real value is lower because a slot's RTP is below 100%: at 96% RTP the expected return on those spins is about €3.84. Any single batch of spins can land far above or below that, especially on a high-volatility game.
Winnings as bonus funds
Winnings from free spins often do not go to your real-money balance. They become bonus funds with a wagering requirement, and then the usual questions apply:
- how many times the winnings must be wagered;
- which games count — live tables are frequently excluded;
- the maximum stake and the deadline;
- whether there is a cap on what can be cashed out.
If the wagering can only be completed on slots, a table player would have to play games they normally avoid. That is a perfectly good reason to skip the offer.
Which slots the spins work on
Free spins are usually tied to one slot or a short list. Before activating them, open the game's information panel and look at the paytable, volatility and RTP. Our games section covers eight titles, including Legacy of Dead, whose RTP can differ depending on the version the operator runs, and Mental, a game with extreme volatility.
Volatility and short sessions
On a high-volatility slot most spins return nothing and the occasional win can be large. With only a few dozen spins the outcome is close to a lottery. On a low-volatility slot, wins are smaller and more frequent. If your free spins are locked to a high-volatility game, expect to finish with nothing more often than not. Volatility is explained in more detail on slots.
Demo mode as an alternative
If your goal is simply to learn a slot, many games offer a demo mode with play credits. It cannot win money, but it also carries no bonus conditions and lets you study the paytable, the symbols and the bonus round at your own pace. For a table player it is an easy way to compare a slot's rhythm with the pace of a live round before spending anything.
What a table player should do
If free spins come bundled with a deposit bonus, check whether you can take the spins and decline the deposit match. Sometimes the best combination is to use the spins and then play live tables with your own money, free of wagering restrictions. Compare with the conditions of the welcome bonus and the no-deposit bonus.
Every figure on this page is an example for the arithmetic. Percentages, multipliers, deadlines and limits are set by the operator and can change at any time — the cashier and the bonus terms on the operator's site are what count.
